Past Meeting: January 18, 2024
Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller spoke at the January 18 meeting of the Democratic Club. About 150 people attended in person or on Zoom.
Miller started by praising Leisure World for having the highest voting percentage in Maryland. She also praised the club for its investment in democracy and its efforts to boost voter turnout.
She talked about the achievements of the administration. All ten pieces of legislation they proposed passed with bipartisan support. They instituted the Service Year program which includes inter-generational service with seniors. They also kept funding for senior programs in a tight budget, and kept funding to study improvements to Norbeck Road.
Miller finished by taking questions. She said Governor Moore has committed to signing the Death With Dignity bill. They are working on a state program to cut drug prices, decrease disparities in health care, and cut taxes beyond the tax cut for veterans once the budget is better balanced.
